LULAC Scholarship Program

The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Scholarship Fund, established in 1929, was created to raise money for Hispanic students seeking higher education. The council was formed in 1932 and has raised money many ways in order make this organization successful for Hispanic graduates.

This fund was made possible by many donations through national corporations, a matching funds program set by the council, as well as old-fashioned money raising. Guidelines have been set through LNESC. This organization offers several scholarships for seniors in high school, undergraduates, and graduate students in college.

A Three-Fold Mission

Programming – This group has a mission to fight off all types of discrimination that is based upon national origin, ethnicity, and/or race. Key factors with this program are housing, leadership, technology, immigration, civil rights, women, young adults, youth, 50 plus demographics, and health. Program assistance is available based upon the available funding and any current community needs.

Advocacy – This organization is a liaison between the government in Washington and the Latino community. It provides assistance with policy makers that involve affirmative action, education, business, and anything else that would impact the community.

Membership – Programming and advocacy are this organizations number one goals and is attained through extensive membership recruitment and retention.

The LULAC National Scholarship Fund

Established in 1975, this fund is sponsored by over 70 council chapters that work to raise funds for these Hispanic Scholarships. This fund is matched by many national sponsoring corporations. Being that education is this groups primary focus, scholarships are provided to many graduating Hispanic students who attend college or a university. Awards are not the only thing that is offered through this program; several different educational programs are also offered for many of the Hispanic youth.

The GE Funds LULAC Scholarship Program

This scholarship program is specifically to assist minority students who are completing their post-secondary education through a college or university. This minority scholarship is separate and is provided by one of the National Educational Service Centers. Not only is this program intended to assist students with financial aid, but it was also created to provide encouragement to those minorities who are completing their education.

This program is available for students who are college sophomores to seniors who are interested in majoring in Engineering or Business. Recipients are awarded $5000 and only two awards are available for the academic year.
